Iran, Russia push for stronger nuclear safety collaboration
TEHRAN- The Islamic Republic of Iran and Russia have emphasized the importance of enhancing collaboration in the nuclear safety framework.
On Tuesday, Mohammad Reza Kardan, the deputy head of the Iranian Atomic Energy Organization, engaged in discussions with Alexander Trembitsky, the head of the Russian Federal Environmental, Industrial, and Nuclear Supervision Service, during the 68th Regular Session of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) general conference.
The meeting reportedly aimed to strengthen cooperation between Tehran and Moscow in the fields of industrial and nuclear safety, as well as environmental monitoring.
During the discussions, Iran's initiative to establish a network of nuclear regulatory agencies among BRICS member nations received a positive response from the Russian delegation.
This initiative is set to be addressed at the forthcoming summit of foreign ministers from BRICS countries.
The 68th Regular Session of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) general conference is scheduled from September 16 to 20, 2024, at the Vienna International Centre (VIC) in Vienna, Austria.
This annual gathering brings together senior officials and representatives from IAEA Member States to deliberate on significant matters concerning nuclear energy, safety, and security.
